This 1020-HP Tesla-Powered Van Can Hang With A 911 Turbo S

The pickup truck you see here may look like a shoddy 2001 Honda Odyssey, but it’s much more exciting. Beneath the panels is the chassis, interior and drivetrain of a Tesla Model S Plaid. Delightfully named ‘Plaidessey’, it was built by the folks at YouTube channel BoostedBoiz and it’s capable of beating just about anything in a one-lap oval race.

The Plaidessey’s builders wanted to see how the van would perform against fast metal, so they took it to Freedom Factory, an oval track well known for its YouTuber owners. Despite its unassuming body style, the Tesla-powered Honda is able to trample a Tesla Model S and what appeared to be a highly modified Audi in a head-to-head “spectator drag”, where cars line up in line with each other. ‘oval and run. against each other for a round.

Even with three engines and 1,020 horsepower available, the Plaidessey is not invincible. The folks at BoostedBoiz meet their match when Freedom Factory owner, the legendary Cleetus McFarland, pulls up in his 991-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S. The car has been modified with a few bolt-ons and more boost, suggesting that it delivers much more than the 580 hp with which it left the factory.

McFarland and Plaidessey raced around the oval twice, and it was the Porsche that took victory each time. But the Honda-badged electric van put up a good fight, coming within a car of victory in the second round. We suspect that McFarland’s track experience and the van’s rubbing bodywork probably had a lot to do with the outcome.

Hopefully this won’t be the last time we see the Plaidessey on the race track. With a few minor modifications, we think it could work even better.
